If you’re looking for an answer as to where Aaron Rodgers will be playing next season, you’re going to have to be patient. According to Rodgers, that answer will not come for at least a couple weeks. And only after Rodgers goes on what is called an isolation or darkness retreat.
“I’m still in the art of contemplation about my future,” said Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee show Tuesday.
“It’s going to be important to get through this week and then to take my isolation retreat and just to be able to contemplate all things my future and then make a decision that I feel like is best for me moving forward in the highest interest of my happiness and then move forward.”
“It’s a darkness retreat. I’ve had a number of friends who’ve done it and had some profound experiences. It’s something that’s been on my radar for a few years now and I felt like would be awesome to do regardless of where I was leaning after this season.”
So, what *is* a darkness retreat?
“It’s four nights of complete darkness,” Rodgers said.
“It’s a room. It’s a little house. There’s a two-way mirror and like a little slot where they’ll drop in some food for you, but it’s isolation and darkness. No music, no nothing.”
Rodgers added that he won’t be locked into this room. That anyone who can’t handle it can just walk out the door.
There will be a few teams that will be interested in what profound realizations Rodgers comes to when he does walk out that door. Among them figure to be the Raiders and Jets and, of course, the Packers.
His former teammate Davante Adams has been making his feelings on a reunion in Las Vegas well known. Adams has called it a “dream scenario” to have Rodgers throwing to him again.
With Derek Carr’s time with the Raiders coming to an end, the Raiders are very much in the market for a new quarterback. Should the 39-year-old Rodgers not only wish to continue his career, but be interested in moving out west to finish his career as a Raider, it would make sense for them to explore trade options.
For now, we await what future Rodgers envisions in the darkness.
