Aaron Rodgers went into the 2022 season coming off two straight MVP awards and putting past drama with the Packers behind him. But in his first season since Davante Adams’ departure to Las Vegas, Rodgers showed serious signs of decline and looked downright miserable at times this season.
Rodgers, though, still thinks that he can return to the MVP-winning level he was at in 2021. It just might not be in Green Bay.
As he does almost every Tuesday, Rodgers was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show where A.J. Hawk essentially assumed that the Packers quarterback wouldn’t be retiring. He wanted Rodgers to address the speculation that he would be leaving Green Bay this offseason, which brought out an interesting response from Rodgers.

Rodgers said:
“Do I still think I can play? Of course. Can I play at a high level? Yeah. The highest. I think I can win MVP again in the right situation. The right situation, is that Green Bay or is that somewhere else? I’m not sure. But I don’t think you should shut down any opportunity. Like I said, during the season, it’s gotta be both sides like actually wanting to work together moving forward. And I think there’s more conversation to be had. I think no player wants to be part of any type of rebuild. I said that years ago.”
Obviously, that wasn’t a ringing endorsement for the Packers as they’re currently formed. If Rodgers for sure wanted to be back in Green Bay, he’d say so. But there’s clearly more work to be down to get to that point.
As it stands, Rodgers is under contract for one more season and has an out in 2024. But even with a $40 million cap hit, the Packers could consider trading Rodgers as the offseason unfolds.
These comments from Rodgers also drew plenty of reaction among NFL fans, especially the emphasis on an individual award over another Super Bowl.
This was how Twitter reacted
pretty hilarious he says “win MVP again” and not win a super bowl https://t.co/DYlmbt9Eh3

I firmly believe at this point Aaron Rodgers looks forward to the offseason and these convos more than he does the actual season https://t.co/pVXvrRrbAg

The question asked was “are you done playing in Green Bay” and he turned it into I can still win MVP in Green Bay or somewhere else

It’s going to be a long offseason in Green Bay — that’s for sure.
