Aaron Rodgers’s Old Tweet Resurfaces After His Comments on Ugly Breakup With Jets

Aaron Rodgers returned to the Pat McAfee Show for his first appearance since the end of the 2024 season, and by and large he did disappoint.

The free agent quarterback told McAfee that he hadn't made a clear decision on his NFL future and said he was "open to anything," noting that he had offseason talks with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings.

But, beyond that, Rodgers didn't give any hints on where he could land—or if he was going to retire—in 2025. Instead, the most interesting tidbit of his appearance was when he ripped his old team, the New York Jets, for how they ended things with him last season.

Rodgers said he flew across the country to discuss his future with Jets coach Aaron Glenn, but he was irritated by the way Glenn almost immediately cut him from the team.

"So we sit down in the office and I think we’re going to have this long conversation," Rodgers told McAfee. "I've flown across the country. And 20 seconds in, [Glenn] goes ...., 'You sure you wanna play football?' And I said, 'Yeah, I'm interested,' and he said, 'We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.'

"And I was shocked. Not shocked because I didn't think that was a possibility. ... But shocked because I just flew across the country. You could've told me this on the phone."

That led one Jets fan to unearth a rather hilarious tweet of Rodgers's from 2013 in which he clearly stated he preferred in-person meetings over phone calls: "Meeting in person > phone calls. Always."

Of course, circumstances do matter. If, true to Rodgers's word, he and Glenn only had a 20-second meeting, then it makes sense as to why the 41-year-old felt a little miffed.

Still, kudos to the power of the internet—and the boundless passion of Jets fans—for always coming in clutch.
