Aaron Rodgers’ Packers extension had NFL fans feeling so sorry for Jordan Love

When the Green Bay Packers drafted quarterback Jordan Love with the 26th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, it was done out of the expectation that Aaron Rodgers’ time in Green Bay would be nearing an end.

Well, about that …

According to Ian Rapoport, Rodgers and the Packers agreed to terms on a four-year, $200 million contract extension that includes $153 million guaranteed. Rodgers and the Packers had their share of drama ahead of the 2021 season, and when Green Bay’s season ended in a Divisional round loss to the 49ers, the 38-year-old was reportedly weighing retirement.

A massive, four-year deal makes for an incredibly awkward situation for Love who was drafted as Rodgers’ replacement and now will never be the Packers’ full-time starting quarterback.

Love has two more years left on his contract, but it would make sense for Green Bay to move him before his trade value takes more of a hit. NFL fans did feel sorry for Love, though.
