Aaron Rodgers has pretty much shut down his 2023 season. He will be back for the 2024 season with the Jets, a season in which he will be playing at 40 years old. And he may go even further.
Rodgers made his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday to discuss his health and future. While he all but officially announced his 2023 season is over, he’s already making a bold statement regarding his future.
“I don’t think next year will be my last year,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers mentioned that 2023 feels like a “lost year” for him and that he has something to prove going into 2024. “I want to be a starter at 40. I want to be a starter at 41,” he said.” Rodgers also credited the Jets for his renewed love for the Jets and still has a firm belief in the entire organization, including head coach Robert Saleh, general manager Joe Douglas and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. “I believe in the leadership we have here,” Rodgers said, adding he sees this situation as reloading and not rebuilding.
Rodgers is under contract through 2025 with the Jets after restructuring the deal earlier this year. He will earn a $35 million guaranteed option bonus as well as $3.1 million in base salary next year. The Jets can also exercise a $35 million option bonus in 2025.
