Aaron Rodgers Hopes to Join Coaches Box With Jets When Able to Travel

While Aaron Rodgers is expected to miss the rest of the 2023 season after he tore his Achilles in the Jets’ season opener last week, it sounds as though the quarterback doesn’t plan to be away from the team all year.

Rodgers underwent surgery on Wednesday, so he’s out of commission for a while, but as The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt reported, Rodgers said he hopes to be in the coaches box and get a headset when he can travel.

Jets reporter Harrison Glaser echoed a similar statement in the fact that Rodgers is looking to join the coaches box presumably in an effort to help coach now-starting quarterback Zach Wilson.

The veteran quarterback spent the offseason working with Wilson often as well, so this will be nothing new for the quarterback duo.

Before Rodgers can travel with the team, Jets quarterback coach Todd Downing will reportedly act as Wilson’s mentor during games, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported.

Rodgers’s return to the football field this season is “not out of the question,” a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. But, until that time comes (if it is this season), Wilson is expected to be the starting quarterback for the Jets.
