New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was happy to get his first win with the team.
… back in 2023.
The Jets (1-1) topped the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. The final was 24-17 but it is not the first time New York has won with Rodgers under center… according to the NFL.
Rodgers, 40, made his debut with Gang Green a year ago. It lasted four snaps. However, New York went on to shock the Buffalo Bills that day.
As rules state, whoever takes the first snap under center gets credit for the QB win. That was Rodgers last season. He made sure to point that out after his “first win” against the Titans (0-2).
“Technically my second,” Rodgers said. “We all know that. Somehow that first one counts.”
Rodgers was then serious about it.
“Feels great, feels great. A long time coming,” Rodgers added.
In the end, the Jets took the win late. Running back Braelon Allen scored a 20-yard touchdown on the ground in the fourth quarter after Rodgers set that up with a deep throw down the sideline.
New York’s defense shut the door after that, but in terms of the offense, head coach Robert Saleh said he was confident.
“I feel like we can score every time we touch the ball,” Saleh said via video conference. “(Rodgers’) presence, his ability at the line of scrimmage, his confidence in the huddle, his confidence on the sideline–the guy is a first ballot Hall of Famer.”
In the win, Rodgers ended up going 18-for-30 passing for 176 yards with two touchdowns.
