Aaron Rodgers accused of holding Green Bay Packers "captive" in brutal claim

Aaron Rodgers has been accused of holding the Green Bay Packers "captive" in a brutal claim against the legendary quarterback.

It's been a rough year for Rodgers and the Packers, currently sitting with one of the worst records in the NFL with a 3-6 record after their recent loss to the struggling Detroit Lions, whilst losing key players to injuries in the past few weeks.

The Packers made a big gamble this past off-season when they decided to trade away superstar receiver Davante Adams, Rodgers' most trusted target. Adams was sent to the Las Vegas Raiders for a first and second round draft pick, as the Raiders would give him a five-year contract extension along with a hefty salary - which Green Bay had not been willing to match.

It's a gamble that has not paid off, with none of their receivers, including high-draft pick Christian Watson, have been able to step up in Adams' place.

Rodgers has played at an elite level for the past two seasons, winning back-to-back MVP awards, with a dramatic fall from grace this season. But whilst he'll be disappointed with his play, the blame largely falls on the ability he has around him, rather than his own decline.

Even still, with the season now looking like it's going nowhere, the Packers may be forced into a decision to finally hand over the reigns to 2020 first-round draft pick, Jordan Love. The former Utah State quarterback has started just once in his career, but ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor believes now is the time to make the move, before criticising Rodgers in the process.

ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor said: "The Packers need to look at a contingency plan and figure out what they have in Jordan Love. Because Aaron Rodgers has held this organisation captive, considering retirement but then coming back, the organisation has to take control back from Aaron Rodgers.

"They have done what is best for Rodgers for a long time and they have to do what is best for them in seeing what they have in Jordan Love - whether it's because he's the quarterback of the future or whether they should trade him. Once the Packers are mathematically eliminated, it should be the Jordan Love show."

Through the past three off-seasons, Rodgers has reportedly considered retirement, before coming back and playing with the Packers. Reports suggested Rodgers was close to joining the Denver Broncos in 2020, as he would be heavily being linked with the franchise again this past off-season, before they ultimately traded for Aaron Rodgers.
