Aaron Rodgers' Absence Not A Concern For New York Jets

The absence of Aaron Rodgers from the New York Jets' two-day minicamp has stirred up some attention, but head coach Robert Saleh is downplaying the situation. Saleh revealed that Rodgers had a prior commitment that he had informed the team about in advance, emphasizing that there are no issues between Rodgers and his teammates. The absence of edge rusher Haason Reddick, on the other hand, seems to be related to a contract matter.

When asked about Rodgers being labeled as having an 'unexcused' absence, Saleh clarified that he and Rodgers are in agreement on the matter. Saleh stressed that the situation is more of a concern for those outside the team than within. He reiterated that Rodgers had communicated his plans beforehand, although backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor indicated that he was informed of leading the starting offense only on the morning of the minicamp sessions.

Saleh explained that discussions with Rodgers are private and not necessarily information that the entire team needs to be aware of. Rodgers had participated in the Jets' voluntary offseason activities after recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon that cut short his previous season after just four plays.

Cornerback D.J. Reed expressed support for Rodgers, noting that if the commitment was important to the quarterback, it was important to the team as well. Despite the absence of Rodgers and Reddick, Saleh emphasized that it is not a significant issue for the team.

Both Rodgers and Reddick face fines totaling $50,861 for missing the mandatory minicamp practices. The Jets continue their preparations for the upcoming season as they navigate through the absence of key players.
