Wales legend Dean Saunders believes Aaron Ramsey should move to Newcastle United or Nottingham Forest with the 2022 World Cup on the horizon this winter.
Ramsey’s £400,000-a-week contract was terminated by Juventus despite having a year left to run. The 31-year-old has spent the last three seasons in Turin and also endured a disappointing loan spell at Rangers during the second half of last season.
Despite his struggles since leaving Arsenal in 2019, Saunders insists that the Wales midfielder still has plenty more to offer.

“I’d like to see him at Newcastle,” Saunders told talkSPORT on Wednesday. “I think that’s the train you want to jump on.
“Or Forest. Steve Cooper is Welsh. He’ll know Aaron. In the Euros, when Wales played Turkey, Bale and Ramsey played together – and Ramsey was magnificent.
“He’s had a few injuries. He broke his leg [against] Birmingham and it affected him for a long time. He’s got a great football brain. He covers more ground than any player on the pitch. Good finisher, great lad.”
Newcastle have plenty of options at their disposal in midfield with Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey, Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes and Matty Longstaff, while Miguel Almiron also has experience playing centrally.
Furthermore, Eddie Howe’s priority has been to secure the signings of a winger and a striker to provide quality and competition for Chris Wood and Callum Wilson.
Although Ramsey is available on a free transfer, his wages won’t be cheap either. Ray Parlour believes Ramsey could follow in the footsteps of his Wales colleague Gareth Bale, who joined Los Angeles FC following his Real Madrid exit.
Major League Soccer has once again become a hotspot for high-profile names, with Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi signing for Toronto FC, Gonzalo Higuain leading the line for Inter Miami and Giorgio Chiellini joining Bale in Los Angeles.
“He will be disappointed – three seasons, 49 appearances,” Parlour said. “He was frozen out, but let’s hope he can get into the Premier League. Forest are the favourites.
“I would always look at America. If you think you’re coming to the end of your career, it’s a slower pace.
“It’s a nice place to live and he’s got three young children.”
