Aaron Ramsey snubs Steven Gerrard for Rangers despite Aston Villa boss’ ultimate praise

Rangers are set to see off English Premier League interest to sign Aaron Ramsey - including from Steven Gerrard.

The Ibrox side looks set to pull off a sensational transfer coup on deadline day with their move for the Juventus playmaker.

Record Sport believes the player and his representatives are in Glasgow now to tie up the biggest signing of the window.

The talented Welshman is thought to have had a number of suitors as he looked to leave Serie A in search of first-team football.

Italian outlet Sport Mediaset claim that Aston Villa were among the admirers.

Newcastle United and Everton were also reportedly in the running but Gerrard's side were tipped as the leading contenders before Rangers dramatic swoop.

The former Ibrox boss has been open in his praise for the 31-year-old in the past, telling The Independent that he considered Ramsey to be among the best players in the Premier League when he played for Arsenal.

He stated: “I don’t think he’ll be happy himself playing out wide because he hasn’t got the legs – his qualities are all in the middle.

“For me, when he’s in that form, he’s the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League.

“You should play your best players where they want to be and I’m sure that’d be in the middle.”

The pair have also previously stuck up a bond after Gerrard posted a snap on Instragram of his son wearing a Juventus top with 'Ramsey' on the back.

The Wales international replied to the picture: "An honour mate."
