Aaron Ramsey sent Rangers plea by Barry Ferguson as Ibrox hero delivers debut timeline verdict

Former Rangers hero Barry Ferguson has called for Aaron Ramsey to be handed a start against Hearts - but issued one caveat.

The Welshman was watching from the stands at Parkhead as Celtic leapfrogged the champions into top spot, just days after his blockbuster Juventus deal was sealed.

But former Ibrox skipper Ferguson is desperate to see the former Arsenal man on the pitch, and urged Gio van Bronckhorst to throw him in against the Jambos.

However, he told told The Go Radio Football Show that he does have some reservations over his fitness following the deadline day signing.

When asked if Ramsey needs to get on the pitch soon, Ferguson said: "Yeah. The only issue is that he's not played since October.

"That's the only negative side I could see of the signing of Aaron Ramsey.

"No doubt he is a top quality player, and he would have had three or four training sessions by now.

"Even if he is 70 per cent fit, with the quality he has got, he would be straight in the starting eleven.

"The manager sees him close up, so he's got big decisions to make.

"For me he is vitally important for Rangers."
