We're barely past the half way mark on Deadline Day and already the rumour mill has hit overdrive.
Rangers were always likely to do some late business but the name Aaron Ramsey certainly wasn't among anyone's expectations – until now.
A flood of reports from Italy on Monday morning indicated the Premiership champions had mounted an audacious loan bid for the Juventus midfielder.
On a staggering £400,000-a-week in Serie A, the initial claims were met with scepticism but the story has snowballed over the past few hours and it appears the 31-year-old will make a move to Ibrox.
Record Sport believes the player and his representatives are in Glasgow now to tie up the biggest transfer of the window. So far, at least.
It's claimed Juve would be willing to cover a considerable chunk of the player's salary to move him on for the rest of the campaign, with the caveat that an option to buy be inserted into any agreement.
At the very least, he looks destined to leave Italy but there are other suitors making a play for his signature.
An unnamed Premier League club and a top side in Europe are among those floated.
But the consensus from Italy is that Rangers are leading the way, with respected transfer gurus Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca di Marzio
The Athletic reported earlier that Ramsey was stationed at a private UK airport terminal to make a decision on his next move.
So it's no surprise that speculation hit fever pitch when pictures and video footage purporting to show Ramsey on the move flashed across social media.
It wouldn't be transfer deadline without some grainy pictures from afar being dissected and analysed by fans, so consider that box very much ticked as far as this story goes.
But remember Rangers are also in for Lechia Gdansk full-back Mateusz Zukowski, who is expected to seal a deal before the deadline.
It's believed the footage and images circulating relate to a deal to sign Zukowski.
Nevertheless, Ramsey's future is still expected to dominate headlines over the coming hours ahead of what could be one of the biggest transfers in Scottish football for quite some time.
