Aaron Ramsey is peak Rangers deflection tactics and he's just another Thomas Gravesen - Hotline

The transfer deadline day recruitment of Aaron Ramsey by Rangers has upped the ante ahead of the Old Firm showdown at Celtic Park.

Opinion is split over the recruitment of the Welsh star but sporting director Ross Wilson was flavour of the month for engineering the signing coup.

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus , said: "I think the best bit of business that Rangers ever did was sign up Ross Wilson, the guy's work is second to none, he gets deals through that seem impossible."

John Davidson, Armadale, said: "This transfer deadline day will be remembered for the biggest coup ever as Rangers signed a world class player in Ramsey. Pundits can't believe it, but Wilson is a God. Behind the scenes he's been working on it for a week and here's hoping it changes our fortunes."

John Bruce, emailed: "Having had their fingers burned after signing injury prone James McCarthy on a four year deal and spending £5m on a goalkeeper who can't make saves, it's understandable why Celtic opted to scour the loan market for bargains and bring in so many players on loan. Rangers chose quality over quantity and they have rocked Scottish football by bringing in a top quality player in Ramsey, a signing that eclipses £20m Amad Diallo, who joined last week. These two signings are a real statement of intent and Wednesday night has just become a whole lot more interesting."

Paul Jenkins, Shieldhall, said: " Celtic’s two best players are loanees in Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota but Ramsey and Amad Diallo are on a whole different level. Rangers should be applauded for having the foresight and ambition to bring these two here and raise the profile of SPFL. Every club will benefit through the turnstiles, sponsors and TV money."

Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: "Rangers are fooling nobody but their fans with the Ramsey signing. I was working in Lancashire last week and it was being reported both Burnley and Blackburn had knocked back similar loan agreements due to fitness and injury concerns. It will take him months to get anywhere near full fitness, if he does at all."

Gerry Kelly , emailed: "I'm listening to all the Rangers fans saying they are going to win the league after the arrival of Ramsey but you would think they have signed Superman. One player doesn't win you the league and they way Rangers are playing just now they should have signed a decent defender."

Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon , said: "Ramsey is a good player but he's spent half of his career in the treatment room. I'd be more worried if they signed Dele Alli."

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: "Who are Rangers fans trying to kid with the over-hyped signing to deflect from last Saturday's last minute disaster at Ross County. Ramsey is no better a signing than Thomas Gravesen and has been slaughtered in the press for being unfit, injury prone, skipping training and playing utter garbage."

George Wilson, West Sussex , said: "It was comical listening to all the Celtic supporters coughing and spluttering on the radio phone-ins and on social media over Rangers signing Ramsey as he’s rubbish. He’s too old, he’s not fit and anything else to diminish a great Rangers coup. Whatever happens on Wednesday, Rangers have signed a quality player who will help them to the title. What was equally good in the transfer window was not losing players like Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent, Glen Kamara and Alfredo Morelos. All these players with Ramsey are a cut above what Celtic have and will prove it by the end of the season."

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach , said: "It's great to have a player of Ramsey's quality and stature at Ibrox. He was a winner at Arsenal and is world class. He's been there and done it and when he's ready to take the field his class will make a big difference to this Rangers side. He knows Rangers are world renowned and that's why the billions at Newcastle couldn't entice him."

And finally.

Alfie Mullin, London, said: "It seems appropriate that Hibs have signed a player called Allan Derriere, if he is going to play in the backside of the team."
