Aaron Ramsey fit for Celtic showdown as Rangers midfielder spared with 'wonderful game' in mind

Aaron Ramsey is fit to face Celtic this weekend as Wales boss Rob Page insists he is free of injury.

The on-loan Rangers midfielder missed Tuesday night's friendly for the Welsh against the Czech Republic in Cardiff, with Page hinting the 31-year-old might've picked up a knock in Thursday's World Cup playoff win over Austria.

However, it seems Ramsey will be in contention for Sunday's Premiership title showdown at Ibrox after Page gave a very different impression earlier today.

Page explained: "There was no injury. It was a no-brainer. What we have to do is show respect to the clubs as well.

"We've got their players and Aaron is 30-plus years old now. I made that decision not to have him in the 23.

"We didn't need to risk Aaron. Let him go back to his club with full fitness and play in a wonderful game, the Old Firm derby on Sunday.

"I made that decision not to have him in the 23.

"Knowing then it's less risk of him getting injured or picking anything else up, so we can protect him a little bit for June.

"We're in the final now. The job was done, the most important game was against Austria on Thursday."

Ramsey is yet to complete an entire 90 minutes since his shock deadline day move to Glasgow from Italian giants Juventus on January 31.

However, he did manage 84 minutes and his first goal for the club in the Gers' previous Premiership outing, a 2-1 win over Dundee a Dens Park on 20 March.
