Aaron Ramsdale vows to improve despite fine Arsenal form: ‘I’m nowhere near where I want to be’

Aaron Ramsdale has insisted he still has plenty to learn despite racking up a second clean sheet of the season in Arsenal’s win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Martin Odegaard scored twice in the 3-0 win that left the goalkeeper, in truth, with little to do at the Vitality Stadium.

Nevertheless, Ramsdale spoke of his desire to continue improving with a mistake that let James Maddison score for Leicester a week earlier still on his mind.

“I’m nowhere near where I want to be,” he told Sky Sports post-match.

“There was a prime example last season, I started well, had a few dips in form, goals go in which you analyse. I made a mistake last week for the Maddison goal.

“So it’s a constant process on the training ground, we’re working really hard. I’m 24 and I’ve always been told that for a goalkeeper as a 24-year-old is like an 18 or 19-year-old outfielder.

“The fact that I’ve got so many games under my belt and different experiences from the past three seasons [mean] I can only grow if my menality’s right.”

Ramsdale also praised the Bournemouth fans for providing a warm reception on his return to the Vitality Stadium after leaving in 2020.

“When I left I never got to say goodbye properly to the fans, due to Covid,” he added. “So that was a special feeling, that four sides of the stadium were singing my name.”
