Aaron Ramsdale predicts big summer window as Edu plans to solve Mikel Arteta's key Arsenal issue

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale thinks that the powers above him will look to add depth to the Gunners' squad this summer.

Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League in the 21/22 campaign as they narrowly missed out on Champions League football to north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Although finishing fifth with such a young squad is a decent achievement, Mikel Arteta would've been disappointed by the Gunners' end to the season, as they lost crucial games to Spurs and Newcastle in the run-in for top four.

Nevertheless, Ramsdale thinks that Edu and co will add talent to the roster in the coming months, as they look to solve Arteta's squad depth problem once and for all.

“We obviously brought in quite a number of players in the last summer window," he said, whilst speaking on the Seaman Says podcast. “I know for a fact the club tried hard to bring some players in in January and we just couldn’t get them over the line.

“But it’s one of those things, hindsight is a wonderful, wonderful thing because we could have got fourth without signing anyone and people would have said it’s because [of the decisions in January].”

Ramsdale added that Arteta doesn't like to speak openly about the Gunners' transfer plans, but he believes the club will spend money this summer to solve their squad depth issue: “No, he doesn’t openly say that," he added. "It’s just one of those things, you’re at a football club and you hear rumours around the training ground and things like that.

"But we’ll look to sign some players in the summer which will be good and obviously, when you’re playing in Europe and you’re playing in the Premier League, you do need very good squad depth.

“Although we didn’t have a huge amount of players, whenever the players did step in, I never felt – and we never felt – that we were losing any quality or anything like that. So I think something the manager did really well is that the ones who stayed and the ones who played, he knew he could rely on all of them.”

The Gunners will be a far better side with more numbers to choose from and with an additional competition to play, they're going to need to utilise every member of the squad in some way next season.
