Aaron Mooy's pre Celtic transfer pitch to Rangers revealed as Ibrox hero opens up on secret 'push' for deal

Former Rangers hero Craig Moore admits he attempted to convince his former club to sign Aaron Mooy before he penned a deal with Celtic.

The Australian international has teamed up with his former Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou at Parkhead, signing a two-year deal and was announced as part of a double swoop by the Scottish Premiership champions along with defender Moritz Jens. The 31-year-old had a home in Glasgow with his Scottish wife Nicola and decided on the move to Celtic after leaving Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG.

However, Moore claims things could have been very different for Mooy if the Rangers power-brokers had listened to his advice over a move for the free agent. Speaking to The Go Radio Football Show, the former Ibrox captain stated that he had told the Europa League finalists to make their move before he agreed terms over a move to the east end of the city.

Moore said when speaking about Mooy sealing a switch to Celtic Park: "He's a fantastic player, and you touch on experience, I think that is key as to why Aaron has ended up at Celtic. I think it's really good business.

"I know the player extremely well. He has played at the highest level, and (he has) the ability to get about the park and (has) a range of passing and delivery. He is a really, really good player.

"I will be honest, he is one I tried to push to Rangers first. With the quality of the player (it made sense), but with the position that are being filled at Rangers and he is slightly older, maybe it didn't make a lot of sense.

"For Celtic it does. He is a player who Ange knows the player extremely well, and he is a good addition."
