Aaron Donald fuels retirement talk in tearful interview after winning Super Bowl

The Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl hero Aaron Donald has refused to rule out retirement after winning a championship ring for the first time in his career.

The Rams defensive tackle was instrumental in his side's victory, with some strong defensive plays throughout the match.

But his finest moment came right at the end, as he burst through the line to sack Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to put an end to their hopes of forcing overtime in the dying seconds.

Before all that there was talk of the 30-year-old possibly calling time on his NFL career if he was to win the game tonight.

That suggestion came from analyst Rodney Harrison, who was speaking on NBC's pregame show.

"[Donald] is big on legacy and he doesn't want to be known as a defender who accomplished so many individual things but never won a Super Bowl," he said.

"He also told me this – if he wins a Super Bowl, there's a strong possibility that he could walk away from the game and retire."

That suggestion prompted a pitch-side reporter to bring up the subject in an interview with Donald immediately after the end of the game.

Donald was in tears after winning the Super Bowl for the first time in his career, and struggled to contain he emotions as he answered questions.

"I'm just so happy. I wanted this so bad... I dreamed this man! This is real, I feel amazing," he choked.

"One last play to be world champs, give everything you have and find a way to get to them. We made the play and we won, that's all that matters.

"It's the best feeling in the world – God is great. I'm lost for words, I don't know what to say... this is a blessing."

Pressed on the possible suggestion of retirement, Donald did not seem to want to give a straight answer.

"I'm in the moment right now. I'm just going to enjoy this right now with these guys," he added. "My kids are coming on the field – this was a promise I made to my daughter when she was five years old.

"I'm just going to live in the moment."
