Daughter of actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, Aaradhya Bachchan has moved Delhi High Court against YouTube channels for fake reporting on her health, media reports say.
As per Zoom, in her petition Aaradhya has asked to "de-list and deactivate all videos" about her.
The matter is being heard in the Delhi High Court by a single bench of Justice C Harishankar.
The Delhi High Court has granted an order of injunction against the infringers and uploaders from uploading the infringing videos and any such content which infringes the privacy and gives false news of about Aaradhya Bachchan. The court has also directed google / you tube to give details of the infringers such as contact number, email id etc.
This is the first of its kind order protecting the rights of a celebrity child who is a minor.
"Though it's not the first time such misleading information is circulated for celebrities, the videos of the child reflects a morbid perversity on part of those who are circulating with complete apathy to the interests of child in question," LiveLaw quoted Justice Shankar saying.
"It is a landmark judgment on 3 counts - injunction which upholds privacy of a child, against disseminating false and fake news about a child which is harmful to a child and against defamation. Children must be treated with parity - whether celebrity child or otherwise - court has said that the intermediaries should have a zero tolerance policy on such fake news which is harmful to a child same as that for child pornography," says lawyer Ameet Naik, along with Dayan Krishnan and Pravin Anand, Abhishek Bachchan in High Court.
Dayan argued that in the face of it, these videos are false, fake, defamatory, and uploaded with the end and intent of gaining eye balls and added viewership and subscription to the channel.
The YouTube channels in question have reported that Aaradhya is of poor health; one of them claimed that she has passed away. "These videos furthermore claimed that the Bachchans did not take any steps to ensure prompt medical attention to Aaradhya," Business Today reported.
Kids of celebrities have always been in the radar of trolls. Their pictures are misused, information on them is spread without any restriction and several social media channels do not verify the facts before sharing them.
Recently a picture of a little boy holding a placard asking for Virat Kohli’s permission to take his daughter Vamika on a date angered netizens. Blaming it on poor parenting netizens expressed displeasure in the content of the placard and the fact that a little boy was made to do it.
