Road diversions will be in place on the A77 in Ayrshire from tonight as overnight resurfacing works get underway.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are undertaking essential resurfacing on the A77 southbound carriageway at Symington, south of Kilmarnock, starting from today until Wednesday, February 22.
The works will be carried out during the hours of 8pm and 6am, each night.
Overnight road closures and a signed diversion will be in operation.
The signed diversion will operate as follows:
•Southbound traffic will leave the A77 at Bellfield Interchange, taking the A71 westbound to Warrix Interchange before joining the A78 southbound travelling to Monktonhead Roundabout and following the A78 to Dutchhouse Roundabout to re-join the A77.
•Traffic which would join the A77 at Spittalhill Interchange will be diverted north on the B7038 to join the A71 westbound at Riccarton and then follow the southbound diversion.
•Traffic which would join the A77 at Bogend Toll and Symington Interchange will take the northbound carriageway to Bellfield Interchange and then follow the southbound diversion.
A lane closure will be required between 6am and 12noon on Saturday 18 and Sunday, February 19 to allow deeper treatments to cool before allowing traffic to run over them.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works. Access for residents within the closed road will be maintained with arrangements shared directly with the residents affected.
Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Thursday, February 23.
The scheme is said to benefit around 29,400 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
