Drivers in Nottingham will know that in recent months there has been a lot of roadworks, disruption and problems facing drivers across the busy route. More specifically, in and around Rushcliffe, there is work going on in Radcliffe-on-Trent, Gamston, Silverdale and Stragglethorpe as a project being carried out by National Highways continues to progress.
That project aims to improve a number of junctions across the A52 and is being delivered in three stages - the second phase is the one currently being carried out. A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The scheme, announced in 2014 as part of the government’s Road Investment Strategy, consists of a package of measures to improve several junctions along the length of the A52 in Nottingham, including signalisation and junction reconstruction.
"The improvements at Nottingham Road and Cropwell Road junctions are complete and opened to traffic in 2017. In 2021, we began work on the four remaining smaller junctions - Bingham, Stragglethorpe, Silverdale and Gamston junctions. In the final phase we'll address the two larger western junctions, Nottingham Knight and Wheatcroft."

Below is some information in exactly what is happening where and how long the disruption is expected to last.
Gamston roundabout
Work is currently underway at Gamston Roundabout, with overnight closures planned for later this month. Phase two will see the construction of a new lane on the westbound and northbound approach of the A52 at Gamston roundabout.
It will include a new 40mph speed limit on the approaches, exits and around the roundabout, to "improve safety on the approaches and pedestrian crossings". Approaches to the roundabout will also be widened to provide extra lanes - this includes widening the A52 approaches into and out of Nottingham from two lanes to four.
The A6011 approach out of Nottingham will be expanded from two lanes to three, with new traffic lights added and the existing bus lane expanded. The existing drainage, street lighting, road signs, road surfacing and lane markings will all also be upgraded. Work is expected to go on until February next year.
Radcliffe-on-Trent
Work in the village of Radcliffe-on-Trent has been ongoing since last year and centres around its Bingham Road junction. As part of the plans, Highways England is widening the approaches to the junction and installing traffic lights.
Before work could start at the junction, however, essential gas works first had to be completed - which started in summer 2021. So frustrated residents have had nearly 12 months of roadworks to contend with - there have been complaints about huge amounts of queuing traffic as well as whether the work needed to be done in the first place by people living nearby.
Stragglethorpe
At the Stragglethorpe junction, the existing U-turn from the A52 eastbound is being removed, with drivers wanting to turn around instead being urged to use the new U-turn facility at the Nottingham Road junction. Work has begun and is expected to be completed in mid-May this year. Work started in March and has taken place intermittently to try to minimise any disruption for drivers.
Silverdale
Work started at the Silverdale roundabout in February this year and is expected to take place for around six months, finishing around August. The westbound entry to the roundabout from Clifton Boulevard will be widened to two lanes, to try to improve traffic flow, while a new bus lay-by is created.
The left turn into Westerfield Way will also be improved, with part-time traffic lights installed on the A453 eastbound entry to the roundabout, to be used during busy and peak times. The roundabout will also be widened on its south side.
