A motorcyclist is in a critical but stable condition after crashing near Wanstead on the London A12 in the early hours of Thursday.

The northbound section of the motorway is closed between Green Man Tunnel and Blake Hall Road, a Transport for London statement said at 8.25am.

The Metropolitan Police said they were called after the rider, in his 30s, came off at the Green Man Roundabout and was injured.

A statement from the force added: “Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service. The motorcyclist, in his 30s, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.”

Due to the knock-on effect, Blake Hall Road is closed between Felstead Road and Cambridge Park for an investigation after the collision. Wanstead buses 101, 145, W13 and W14 are all diverting.
