A woman was spotted walking down Snowdon in flip flops

A woman has been spotted descending from the summit of Snowdon in flip flops. Repeated warnings have been given by mountain rescue teams about people being fully prepared before walking the mountain.

On Saturday, May 7, moderatespuds shared the picture on Twitter saying: "Seen sometime at the top of Yr Wyddfa yesterday with these beauts on". The mountain has an elevation of 1,085m.

He said: "I said to her 'fair play with wearing those up here', her answer was that they were comfortable" said the 42-year-old from north Wales who had been a regular visitor to the mountain.

"Someone had commented on the picture I shared saying they had seen her up there and thought they overheard her say she had walked up with other pair of shoes but they were hurting her feet. They hadn’t see her changing them back though, it's still dodgy even walking around at the top with flip flops on," he said.

The walker was descending the summit when 'Wilfy' had taken the photo and left the hiker declaring it as "madness" adding "I was shocked to be honest, even if she was wearing them for a few minutes. Flip flops are the worse things for causing falls of twisting ankles. Mountain Rescue Teams have enough to do sadly."

Last year, he saw a man walking up Snowdon in 3in of snow wearing a pair of Adidas trainers. Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team has warned people who visit should wear the appropriate gear after spotting a group ascend the mountain wearing stilettos. The beauty spot is increasingly popular and critics say it is " worse than Alton Towers ". whilst others have argued its beneficial for tourism.
