A resurfaced Tweet Liam Payne wrote about his own funeral in 2011 has gone viral just hours after the singer was laid to rest on Wednesday.
“If I died, would you come to ma funeral? [sic]” the former One Direction member wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on January 1, 2011.
After the private funeral in Amersham, north-west of London, Directioners uncovered the 31-year-old’s old Tweet, and began re-sharing it in tribute. Many posts nodded to Payne’s former One Direction members Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik, who were all in attendance.
“They would. They went,” wrote one fan.
“Your brothers did, Payno,” said another.
“The tragic reunion I didn’t expect to happen at your funeral, Liam. You will be missed. Rest in love,” Tweeted a Directioner.
Payne’s former One Direction bandmates attended the funeral alongside Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy, his ex and mother of his child Cheryl Tweedy and his parents Karen and Geoff Payne. They were joined by friends, family and other famous faces including James Cordon and Simon Cowell.
Liam first rose to fame in 2010 as a member of the boy band One Direction. The band was put together on the reality competition show The X Factor. They performed as a group until Zayn Malik left the band in 2015.
Although they continued touring as a group without Malik for a little while, the band officially disbanded in 2016.
The 31-year-old singer was laid to rest after he died from falling from a third-story balcony at a Buenos Aries hotel on October 16. He died from the injuries related to his fall. However, preliminary toxicology reports revealed that he had drugs in his system at the time of his death, including pink cocaine.
Three weeks after his death, his body was flown back to the UK for the funeral and three people were charged in connection to his death.
