Are you desperate for a change of environment when it comes to your work life? Well, this Aussie TikToker has pulled out a golden list packed with the most ~unique~ jobs Down Under that pay a decent amount of dosh.
I’m not trying to be a kiss-ass because my boss will be reading this article — more than likely — but I am blessed to be in a position where I’m paid to yap. I’m not even joking. As soon as I was a wee kiddo I knew I wanted to be a journo because I would just get into trouble for talking, talking and talking. So why not make some moolah off that right, amirite?
However, I must admit, every once in a while, I do look out the office windows wondering what it would be like beyond the pods and fluorescent lights.
Well, in a cheeky turn of events, Josiah‘s (@j0siahyoung) TikTok landed on my feed, where he lists all the random jobs that pay a shit tonne of cash shmoney.
To give you the TL;DR on the quick sticks video, Josiah goes through a list of jobs “you’ve probably never heard about” in Australia. But what makes the list even better is that these odd pieces of work actually pay well.
Kicking off the list, Josiah claims that folks can earn $55 to $78 per hour for being a “Rent-A-Friend”. However, it does have its dangers like — of course — as Josiah would put it, “stranger danger”.
For folks who are not too sure what a Rent-A-Friend gig is, it is basically when you’re paid to hang out with someone in a platonic way.
“It’s kinda like a support worker but for someone who doesn’t need support they just want someone to hang out with them,” the TikToker added.
The second odd high-paying job on Josiah’s list is duck master, which he claims pays up to 55 bucks an hour! Duck me!!!
“This is someone who takes care of a space that has five or more ducks,” the TikTok comedian explains. “For every five ducks you need a master.”
I guess you could say you’ve got 99 ducks, and I’ll be their master for $55 an hour!
Last on the list of Josiah’s odd jobs big money is laughter therapy coordinator, which reportedly pays between $90 and $120 per hour.
“They just sit there and laugh in a circle,” Josiah shared.
Although the duck master one intrigued me the most, fellow TikTokers were keen to learn more about the Rent-A-Friend gig.
“Rent a friend would be great for an extrovert,” one person wrote.
“I would rent a friend. It’s a great idea if u don’t wanna go places by yourself,” another person wrote.
“And I am over here giving out my friendship for free,” another joked.
Do these odd jobs actually pay that much in Australia?
Well, going off the official “rent-a-friend” website, folks can charge up to $50 an hour!
Peep this full spreadsheet below of how much you can get paid as a full-time or part-time bestie.
For the laughter therapy coordinator gig, I could not find the exact salary for this specific kind of therapy. However, according to Glassdoor, therapy coordinator salaries in Australia range from $33K to $35K.
Unfortunately, I could not find the duck master gig online or on Reddit! But honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it paid that much to look after them sassy birds.
Look, this is not my resignation article or anything, but if I see a duck master gig open up… I MAY take a peek!
