A food delivery rider has been accused of allegedly urinating in a Sydney apartment elevator while holding a customer’s meal and yup, that’s a new nightmare unlocked for me.
The incident — which allegedly took place on March 10 — has been referred to NSW Police, and it’s left residents of the Northview building in Artarmon pretty understandably shook. They’re are also demanding Uber cover the costs of cleaning and replacing the lift’s carpet, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.

CCTV footage of the alleged incident shows the delivery rider — with his back to the camera — standing in the lift holding a Betty’s Burgers bag in hand.
It then shows him seemingly undoing his pants and urinating near the elevator door while selecting the floor. As he steps out, there’s a wet patch on the top right corner of the entryway.
Building resident Geoffrey Grasso said he noticed the wet floor the next morning when he was walking his dog. Initially, he thought someone had spilled coffee, per the SMH.
“When the building manager told me what it was, I was disgusted,” Grasso said.
“I was very much revolted and disgusted.”
Grasso said the incident — which he noted as a “major health issue” — had been reported to NSW Fair Trading and the state’s Point to Point Transport Commissioner, which is the watchdog for ride-share services.
He also remarked the alleged incident is a major breach of food handling requirements, given the rider apparently holds the bag of food while urinating and then takes it over to the customer who ordered it.

The resident told the publication that despite the carpet being deep cleaned and sanitised, the smell still lingers in the elevator.
Speaking to 2GB host Ben Fordham, who first shared details of the incident on Monday, Grasso said he suspects the urine has soaked through entirely. He added the building manager estimates a $2,000 cost to get this sorted.
“It’s just a disgusting thing to do, it breaches any form of normal etiquette and health standards. I’m sure if he was that desperate and said to the resident in question ‘may I use your toilet?’ I’m sure they would’ve said yes,” he said.
In a statement to PEDESTRIAN.TV, an Uber Eats spokesperson said the platform is investigating the incident.
“We strongly condemn this kind of behaviour, which has no place on the Uber platform. We are currently investigating and will be taking necessary action,” they said.
“Our community guidelines clearly set out the rules that we expect all users including delivery people to follow, and breach of these guidelines can result in loss of access to the Uber app.”
Video footage of the incident on social media has also left users pretty repulsed, with one person stating they feel sick and another calling for the rider to be banned.
“This is why I like to go get my own food,” one user said.
