A surreal and spectacular universe is presented on canvas during "Variety Surreal: Fashion Interpreted Onto Canvas" at River City Bangkok's Room 249-250, Chaoren Krung 24, until Feb 20.

This is a debut solo exhibition by Tanya Tansaringkan, a fashion designer with 10 years of experience, who has discovered her new passion in painting -- a new avenue for her to transform her thoughts and ideas.

Fashion, creativity, and surrealism were all influences in her almost 20 paintings that inspire viewers to step out of their everyday reality and explore her imagination.

She presents the symbol of beauty from different eras through The Beauty Regents which depicts world-famous French fashion designer Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco'' Chanel encountering Venus, a goddess in Roman mythologies.

For The Element Wind, which portrays a mysterious lady dressed in a ruffle, an antique style of apparel that dates back to the mid-15th century, Tanya suggests that women's beauty is illusory and impenetrable, much like the wind.

She also made use of contrasts between people and their relationships with objects or animals as in The Revolution which depicts a woman with a red rhinoceros and The Urbanist Reflection which shows the illusional metropolis as a high rise filled with a little bird.
