A round-up of Nottinghamshire defendants in court this week

This week the wife of a motorcyclist killed by a drunk van driver fought back tears in court as she revealed how her "whole world just stopped" when she was told the terrible news of his death. Claire Osborne spoke as driver, Julieanne Walsh, was sentenced to five years for causing death by careless driving when she was over the drink drive limit.

Walsh, 32, of Abbott Road, Mansfield, was drunk when she drove over the white lines on a gentle bend and clipped part of Mark Osborne's bike with her wing mirror at Burntstump Hill. He lost control and was thrown from the bike into a traffic post and died at the scene.

Walsh, a care worker, who had a heavy drinking session at a pub in St Ann's before driving, was banned from the roads for five-and-a-half years. Read the full story here

Over at Nottingham Magistrates' Court, defendant Shane Hudson , 36, of Bestwood Road, Bulwell, was found guilty of stalking pathologist Professor Guy Rutty MBE. Hudson, who was acquitted of the murder of sister-in-law Rachel Hudson in 2005, became "entirely fixated" with Professor Rutty who gave evidence in the murder trial 18 years ago.

Hudson will be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on August 1. Read the full story here

Accused Darrell Rudyj, 26, of Lathkill Close, Bulwell, was sentenced this week after he wrote to his ex-partner to warn her, "you are going to die", and threatened to throw acid in her face in a flurry of violent and threatening emails.

He pleaded guilty to causing a person to fear violence would be used against them by his conduct. His sentence was 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, a community order, and 31-days of an accredited programme. He must also do ten rehabilitation activity days. Read the full story here

Justin Slater appeared in court after he threatened to shoot a member of staff in the head at a pawnbrokers and broke a window. Slater visited the Cash Shop, in Kings Walk, Nottingham city centre, to trade his bicycle but there was no room inside.

He pushed a glass window with open palms, causing it to smash, before he walked away. Slater, 50, whose address is care of Goose Gate, Nottingham, pleaded guilty damaging a glass separating window which was worth more than £600. The case was adjourned for probation to contact 'wellbeing help' to see if the defendant is suitable. Read the full story here

Senior business managers from Nottinghamshire were jailed after a food waste recycling company was convicted of the corporate manslaughter of two employees. Nathan Walker, 19, and Gavin Rawson, 35, died on December 22 2016 after falling into a tanker of semi-liquid pig feed.

The incident happened at Greenfeeds Ltd in Normanton, Bottesford, Leicestershire. The company produced bio-fuel and pig feed from recycled products which were then delivered using road haulage tankers.

It was owned and ran by the Leivers family including Ian Leivers and his wife Gillian Leivers. The firm was fined £2million and is now in liquidation after being convicted of the charges on June 7 after a six-week trial at Leicestershire Crown Court.

A sentencing hearing took place at the same court on Thursday (June 16). Greenfeeds Ltd was fined a total of £2million after being found guilty of two counts of corporate manslaughter. Read the full story here

Spitting thug Mark Bell headbutted a police officer in West Hill, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard on Thursday, June 16.

Bell, 46, of West Hill, was jailed for the assault for 12 weeks but this was suspended for 12 months with the condition he is not convicted of another offence. He must do 120 hours of unpaid work, and 15 rehabilitation activity days.

He was fined £400 for racially-aggravated behaviour and ordered to pay the officer £250 compensation. Additionally, he has to pay a victim surcharge and costs. Read the full story here

And driver Rocky Price ploughed his car into a wall after driving nearly three times the speed limit. Price, 18, lost control of his car while travelling at speed along London Road, Newark, and crashed into a garden wall outside a house.

He was arrested at the scene of the crash and later charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. Price, of no fixed address, appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, June 16, where he pleaded guilty to all the charges. He had been remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on July 14, 2022. Read the full story here
