Aubrey Plaza turned heads at last night's Emmy Awards. The outstanding supporting actress in a drama series nominee wore a striking Loewe gown. Her beauty look made just as big of a statement, though.
Makeup artist Kathy Jeung exclusively relied on L'Oréal Paris makeup and skin care products to achieve the glamorous look. To prep Aubrey's skin, Kathy used the brand's Revitalift Derm Intensives 2.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid + Caffeine Eye Serum and Bright Reveal 12% [Niacinamide + Amino Sulfonic + Ferulic Acid] Dark Spot Serum. Then Kathy applied True Match Super Blendable Foundation in N3 Light / Medium, True Match Super-Blendable Powder in C3 Light / Medium, True Match Super-Blendable Concealer in N3 Light / Medium, Infallible Up to 24H Fresh Wear Soft Matte Bronzer in 300 Light Medium, Infallible Up to 24H Fresh Wear Soft Matte Blush in 10 Confident Pink and True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer in 902 Light Glow. She highlighted Aubrey's eyes with Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in Bronzed Taupe, Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in Eternal Sunshine, Panorama Mascara in Blackest Black, Brow Stylist Brow Definer Mechanical Waterproof Eyebrow Pencil in Brunette, Infallible Grip Mechanical Gel Eyeliner in 220 Brown Denim and Infallible Grip Precision Felt Waterproof Eyeliner in 600 Black. Colour Riche Intense Volume Matte Lipstick in Worth It finished things off.
OLAPLEX Global Ambassador Tracey Cunningham worked with Aubrey to craft a "mink coat brown" hair color. Tracey began by mixing OLAPLEX Nº.1 Bond Multiplier in some water, then painted it on Aubrey's ends and let it dry while she did the base color. "I knew that I was going to be low-lighting and balayage, so I wanted to protect the hair..." points out Tracey.
Tracey low-lighted Aubrey's hair in order to give it a little more depth before painting a few balayage pieces on the ends with some OLAPLEX on it. Then warm Redken Shades EQ gloss was applied all over. Tracey turned to the OLAPLEX 4-IN-1 Moisture Mask before blowdrying. "I first put in something really important, which is the OLAPLEX Nº.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum. It protects from heat up to 450 degrees. Then, I put number six on the ends and blow-dried." Finally, OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil polished off the newly-hued locks.
Meanwhile, celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend was responsible for Aubrey's 60s-style half updo inspired by a couple of French icons. "I was able to see the gorgeous Loewe gown Aubrey had chosen to wear a few days ago and my head exploded with inspiration," explains Mark. "We decided that a half up hairstyle would best suit the silhouette of the dress and I was so inspired by the way Catherine Deneuve and Brigitte Bardot wore their hair up so Aubrey and I looked at pictures of them to inspire us."
Mark first cleansed Aubrey's locks with OLAPLEX No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and OLAPLEX No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner. Then a few drops of OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil were applied to her wet hair and combed through. "This lightweight oil is amazing to seal the cuticle, protect the hair from heat styling, and adds tons of shine to the hair," says Mark.
OLAPLEX Volumizing Blow Dry Mist was added to her hair and blowdried with a round mixed-bristle brush to get as much movement and volume as possible. "I made sure to spray this on her roots at the crown to get lots of lift and volume." Then Mark wrapped large sections of hair around a 1-inch curling iron to create loose waves. "To give her lots of long lasting volume at the crown I liberally sprayed OLAPLEX 4D Clean Volume Dry Shampoo on her roots and lightly back combed the hair for lift."
To form the half updo, he gathered her hair from the sides and top, then wrapped them in a small bun and secured the bun just under the crown with eight Day Rate Beauty hair pins. Next, a small amount of OLAPLEX No. 6 Bond Smoother along with a few drops of OLAPLEX No.7 Bonding Oil were mixed together, then raked through all the hair in the back to tame flyaways and add shine. OLAPLEX 4D Clean Volume Dry Shampoo was used to keep Aubrey's freshly-cut fringe nice and full. "I like to use dry shampoo on bangs instead of hairspray because hairspray can leave them looking wet and heavy whereas dry shampoo keeps them full," confesses Mark.
