A Plague Tale: Requiem‘s Chapter 5: In Our Wake opens up with Amicia and the party slowly making their way down a river teeming with debris and dead bodies. The boat eventually catches on some thick detritus, and Amicia and Lucas hop out to deal with it. Naturally, this separates the duo from the boat and requires some puzzle-solving to get back to their family. Here’s our guide for In Our Wake.
Cross the construction site
The first section of this chapter is straightforward — follow the path until you come across a quarry. Upon arrival, the rats will burst forth, creating a hazard that you and Lucas must now cross. This section introduces flammable objects — in this case, hanging hay — that slowly lose their fire over time. Light the first hay bundle up and make your way across to the crane on the other end. Even though the fire will extinguish, it won’t deplete the hay, so you can relight — and you’ll need to.
Grab the chests nearby and have Lucas man the turnstile. Once the hay has reached its new destination, light it up with Ignifer, then craft an Ignifer Pot and throw it at the base of the stairs directly across to clear out the remaining rats. Make sure you aim it near the stairs, otherwise you won’t have a clear path to the next safe spot.
On the next platform, rotate the turnstile and hold it in place — Lucas will use his own Ignifer to light up the hay and make his way across. Now, you’ll need to have Lucas rotate the turnstile, but once it arrives, you have to light it up, command Lucas to let go of the turnstile, and manually follow the light source as it travels around the area. There’s a ledge you have to climb up, and in the heat of the moment you could miss it, so keep an eye out.
Shortly after climbing up the ledge, the hay fails, and the light source fades. Lucas will toss you a new consumable, called Pyrite, which allows you a one-time escape from the rats. It only lasts a few seconds, so make your way to the stairs immediately.
Grab the chest, and get ready for another timed escape. Wind the turnstile all the way and immediately make your way back to the stairs. Light up the hay as it passes, and follow it to the ledge directly across the way. Grab the loot here, before picking up a stick from the pile and tossing it to Lucas.
Wait for Lucas to cross the rats, and once he arrives at the safe zone, he’ll mention that the gate is locked. Lock onto it with a stone equipped in your sling, and blow off the hatch. Light up the haybale, and dart across the gap to the next platform — Lucas will join you. There’s a workbench here for you to upgrade your gear if you wish, and once you’re ready, grab a stick and light it up. Your next goal is the brazier located just below and to the left of the stairs. Once you’ve arrived, lift up the fallen wood and you’ve caught up to the boat.
Clear a path for the boat
This next section will have Amicia and Lucas split up to free the chain that is blocking the boat from continuing downriver. Don’t bother with the turnstile that’s right there, instead head to the back of the shack and crouch through the gap on the right, facing away from the river. There’s a cart full of stones that can be moved, but you’ll need Lucas to do it because underneath is a hole for Amicia to drop down through.
After Amicia’s putrid bath of blood, move forward, find the dead body blocking the turnstile and remove it. You don’t need to go back to the hole you jumped into, just proceed forward and Amicia will pull herself up onto a wooden ledge once Lucas pulls it in. Once you’re ready, tell Lucas to let go of the turnstile. When you’ve arrived at the opposite shore, grab the chest first and then look up at the ceiling and you should see a counterweight. Hit the clasp with your sling to end the section and move on.
Find a way to reach the boat
At the floodgates, head up and left and look for a drawbridge that’s been raised. You can hit the clasp from the side to lower the drawbridge. Next, find the movable cart and move it towards the platform close to where the drawbridge was. You should now be able to access the cliffs and find a pink flower hidden on the cliffside, called an Anemone. This will be added to Hugo’s Collection.
Head back to the cart and move it towards the other platform, the one that goes across the river. Head up and over, then immediately double back to see another clasp that will lower another drawbridge. Don’t cross back over quite yet, instead man the turnstile and move the platform over to the other side first. Head back over, move the cart onto the platform, then return to the turnstile and move the cart to the other side. Use the cart to climb up the next platform.
Once you do, you will enter the next part of the chapter after a brief tutorial with the crossbow turret. This next portion is mostly a shooting gallery — when you’re not aiming the crossbow, you are protected, but you have to fire the crossbow to clear out henchmen who will fire on you from behind, so time your shots well and you should make it through without much trouble. Eventually, you will be hooked by the bandits and will have to complete the rest of this chapter on foot.
The ending of this chapter is a series of forced encounters and chase sequences, but you should be able to handle that by now. Remember you now have a crossbow to deal with the helmeted enemies that you couldn’t previously handle, so make good use of the ample ammo scattered across the battlefield.
