A Place in the Sun's Craig Rowe was tasked with a difficult search as he hoped to find John and Diane's dream holiday home on Spain's Costa Calida.
The couple had a maximum budget of £180,000 and were looking for a property with enough space to enjoy it with their grown-up daughters and granddaughters.
The couple were impressed by the first three-bedroom apartment Craig offered but admitted they wanted more outdoor space.
John described the apartment as "amazing" while Diane told the Channel 4 presenter he had "set the standard quite high".
However, the second property immediately received a negative response from the couple despite it coming with more outdoor space than the first offering, a roof terrace and a balcony.
After walking up to the property, Diane said: "The road is too narrow, it's all a bit tight," before John rejected it outright and added: "It's not what we are looking for."
John questioned whether they should look inside the bungalow before Craig eventually persuaded to give the property a chance.
"I can tell this isn't making your heart sing but I'd love to show you inside so you can see it," a disappointed Craig said and the couple agreed they would try to keep an open mind.
The bungalow offered three private outdoor spaces with plenty of outdoor storage, a good sized lounge, a modern kitchen-diner and two good sized bedrooms.
Although the couple admitted it was "lovely" John doubled down on their first impression and confirmed they would not be interested in labelling the property a contender.
"It's not for us I'm afraid," the convinced property hunter remarked.
At the end of the search, John and Diane decided to put an offer forward for one of the properties after falling in love with a four-bed apartment.
After putting in an offer £13,000 lower than the asking price of £153,000, the owner of the property came back with a counter offer of £143,000 which was happily accepted by the couple.
A Place in the Sun airs on Channel 4 on weekdays at 3pm.
