A Place in the Sun host red faced after offending buyer with 'joke'

A Place in the Sun's Ben Hillman accidently insulted a buyer on today's episode.

The property expert was helping house hunters Whitney and Rose find their dream home in La Zenia on the Spanish Southern Costa Blanca. With a budget of £80,000 they hoped for a home where they could spend time relaxing together.

They wanted a property with an outdoor area with a nice view. They said that they were fairly flexible so the style of the home didn't matter too much as long as they could be happy there.

The search didn't get off to the best start as it began with a two bed apartment in Lomas de Cabo Roig, but the buyers were searching for somewhere more in the heartland of La Zenia. Following the viewing, Rose said: "It's not too bad, it's okay for the money but the location is the biggest problem" before adding that it was "too remote".

This prompted Ben to show the couple around a two bed townhouse in La Florida. The property was priced at £83,292, boasted a communal pool and gardens and was a 30-minute walk from the beach and near a shopping centre.

Rose said that it had "potential" but wasn't meant to be as the search continued. They were later taken to a fifth-floor two-bedroom property in Punta Prima which was close to the coast for £81,000.

Whitney was delighted with the property and the viewing was going well - until Ben accidentally insulted the buyer.

While looking around the pool area, Whitney said: "This is top of the list so far, it knocks the others off." Piggybacking on the excitement, Ben said: "You can let your hair down and party".

But the house hunter, who was rocking a bald head, looked offended as he said: "Well I don't know about that." Ben looked embarrassed as he realised his error. He said: "I've realised my mistake now, I didn't think anyone noticed at that point."

Despite the blunder, the couple ended the search on a high. They fell in love with the fourth property - a two-bed apartment in Punta Prima - and decided to put an offer in.

They decided to offer £81,250 but the offer was rejected as it was "too low". Their maximum budget was £85,000, so Ben put in a counter-offer for that figure which was successful.
