A Place in the Sun host forced to deliver brutal reality over buyer's budget

Jean Johansson was forced to deliver some brutal home truths to buyers on Tuesday's episode of A Place in the Sun.

The presenter was helping fitness instructor Katie and her eldest son Michael look for a property in Paphos, Cyprus after travelling the world together and falling in love with the seaside town.

Katie wanted her own holiday home which the family could enjoy and where she could escape the cold winters.

The pair told Jean they wanted a property with one or two bedrooms, a nice outside area, a pool and a good view with a budget of just £80,000, plus wiggle room of a couple of thousand pounds.

Jean said: "I'll be honest with you, the budget is ok. But for everything you want there will be compromises."

Things started off well as Jean showed them a one-bed apartment with a communal pool and two private balconies which was well within budget at £77,000.

However, it all went downhill from there.

The mum and son team were left unimpressed by the second property which was much smaller than the first.

For the third choice, Jean showed Katie and Michael a home with a shared pool and neither of them seemed pleased, with Katie remarking: "It's nothing like the last couple of properties."

Jean hit back: "You wanted two bedrooms didn't you? Well, there's not going to be a massive, sprawling pool for your budget."

Michael wasn't happy with the pool which was shared by 10 other properties. Jean also said the property ticked a lot of boxes but was over budget at £91,000.

They weren't willing to part with their cash and refused to look around the rest of the property.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the pair's property search.

One person wrote: "They don't understand compromise," while a second said: "Isn't the top of her budget £83k? Stop deluding yourself, woman."

A third viewer Tweeted: "Surely the second bedroom is more important than a view you pair of doughnuts?"

Someone else said: "I wouldn't be sharing a bedroom with my mum that's for sure."
