A Place In The Sun host cringes as 'hard work' couple put low offer on property

A Place In The Sun host Lee Juggernauth was left feeling awkward after a couple on the show put in an offer so low fans dubbed it "mean".

During Wednesday night's episode of A Place In The Sun, Lee was on hand to help Julie and Peter find their dream home in the south west of France, reports the Daily Record. The couple had a hefty budget of £200,000, and were aiming for a two-bedroom detached home, that included traditional French features.

And while all of Lee's options had them impressed, the final property the couple were shown had them head over heels.

The three-bedroom home in Degagnac was a converted old school building, that included a huge garden. The property was on the market for £185,000, showcasing all the traditional French features the pair were after.

A separate building was also included in the sale, with the outhouse a potential spot for guests. The couple were left impressed as Julie exclaimed to the host: "You've pulled this one out of the bag".

Peter also hailed the property as "perfect", but there was one issue - there was no area for the guests in the separate building to shower.

However, Lee solved this by saying that they could add a shower to the separate en-suite, costing an estimated additional £5,000.

And after going over everything, the couple put in an offer for the property. Despite the fact the asking price was within their budget, Julie and Peter put in a significantly reduced offer of £150,000.

Presenter Lee said that there would be room for some negotiation, but he was left cringing after hearing the low-ball offer. He asked the couple: "That is significantly lower than the asking price, what's the reason for that?"

Julie replied: "We need to put in a shower room downstairs for the second bedroom, convert the annexe garage doors into proper windows and doors and we would like to put a swimming pool in."

The offer was rejected immediately, as Julie and Peter were left still searching for their dream holiday home.

Following the episode, viewers took to social media to share their opinions on the couples low-ball offer, and the result of the show.

One Twitter user wrote: "That is quite the stunt to pull."

Another said: "They wanted something for nothing! I would not sell to them now regardless of any amount offered!"

A third called it a "cheeky move", whole others added that it was a "mean offer" for what they were planning to buy.

One commented: "France just had a lucky escape - most miserable couple ever."

And another echoed: "The poor presenter - it's like flogging a dead horse. The woman's quite rude at times too."

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4 and All 4.
