A PGA Tour player used his putter to get out of a bunker it went horribly wrong for him

Lee Hodges hit his tee shot on the par-3 15th hole at PGA National on Sunday into the bunker behind the green. Lots of golfers found themselves in there over the past four days of the Honda Classic so nothing about it seemed out of the ordinary.

But what he did next was absolutely unordinary – he grabbed his putter from his bag and hit his ball out of the trap.

Seriously, he went with his putter over one of his wedges and I have no idea why. He didn’t have a ton of green to work with and he was well back in the bunker… but using a putter!? I enjoy the creativity but I have to think there was a better option than the one he chose.

So, how’d it go for him?

Not well!

That’s one of the craziest things I’ve seen a pro golfer do, especially by one who was in contention to win the tournament at the time.

Hodges dropped two strokes on the hole and fell out of the top 10.

Twitter had reactions.
