A Passenger Jet Has Collided With A Helicopter & Crashed Into The River In Washington DC

Emergency services have rushed to the scene after a passenger jet and a helicopter collided in a midair near Washington DC in the United States.

The collision occurred as the passenger jet approached Reagan National Airport at around 9pm EST. According to NBC News, the jet was an American Airlines regional jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members which departed from Wichita, Kansas.

One or both aircraft are currently believed to have fallen into the Potomac River following the crash.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway with four survivors reportedly found and taken to a fire station at the Reagan National Airport.

Footage of what appears to be an explosion over the Potomac River was captured on EarthCam — a worldwide webcam network.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
