A.P. govt. obliged Naidu‘s request to make Kuppam a revenue division, says Jagan

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday said that the Andhra Pradesh government had obliged the request of TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu and accorded revenue division status to Kuppam.

“In response to an appeal made by Kuppam MLA (Mr. Naidu) to the State government, Kuppam has been included in the list of 21 new revenue divisions,” the Chief Minister said while inaugurating 13 new districts in virtual mode on Monday.

Mr. Naidu, who held the Chief Minister’s post for 14 years, had failed in making Kuppam a revenue division, he said.

With the inclusion of 21 new revenue divisions, the total number has gone up to 72 from 51. Now, two districts have been named after two former Chief Ministers—NTR after N.T. Rama Rao, founder of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Kadapa after Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Historic significance

Two new districts comprising tribal regions have been named ‘Alluri Seetharamaraju’, a tribal leader who had fought the British and ‘Parvathipuram Manyam’ which also has a history of revolt.

Palanadu and Bapatla districts have their historic significance during and before the struggle for Independence.  Considering the religious importance, three new districts —Tirupati, Annamayya and Sri Satya Sai —have been formed.

Anakapalli, Kakinada and Eluru, all Parliamentary constituencies, have been made districts, while Konaseema has been made a district with Amalapuram as its headquarters.

“The new districts have been formed in accordance with the public opinion after due consideration of 17,500 representations received from the people. The government has taken various factors into consideration including sentiments of the people in carving out the new districts,” the Chief Minister said.
