While expressing shock over the death of six persons and injuries to several workers in the fire accident in Porus Laboratories Private Limited, a chemical factory located in Musunuru mandal of Eluru district, late on Wednesday night, BJP State president Somu Veerraju on Thursday demanded that the government increase the ex gratia of ₹25 lakh announced to the bereaved families to ₹1 crore.
Mr. Veerraju also wanted ₹25 lakh given as compensation to each one of those seriously injured. He further urged the government to shift the bodies of the victims to their native places free of cost.
The BJP leader said the government should regularly assess the safety standards in industries and factories. “The officials concerned have apparently failed to discharge their duties. Necessary remedial action should be taken to avoid recurrence of such incidents,” he said.
