A NYC-Themed Pop-Up Ft. Free Iconic Hot Dogs From Johnny G Is Coming To Melbourne

Forget the 20-hour flight — New York is coming to Melbourne and is bringing one of its most famous street food icons along for the ride.

For over 40 years, Johnny G has been a fixture of Times Square, serving his iconic John’s Famous Hot Dogs to locals and tourists. Now, for the first time ever, he’s flying to Melbourne for a one-weekend-only pop-up, giving Aussies a taste of NYC street food.

As part of the launch of Travel Booking via the CommBank app, a Flinders Street venue will transform into an immersive Times Square experience. That’s right, you can expect the sights, sounds (and tastes) of NYC featuring yellow cabs, street buskers, giveaways, and (most importantly) free (!!) hot dogs straight from the NYC legend himself.

Here’s everything you need to know.

When’s it happening

From Friday, February 28 until Sunday, March 2, from 12pm to 8pm (and 9.30am to 2pm on Sunday), 524 Flinders Street will transform into a small slice of the Big Apple, complete with FREE New York-style hot dogs from Johnny G’s iconic John’s Famous Hot Dogs.

These aren’t just any hot dogs, though.

The event will feature locally made, NYC-style sausages personally endorsed by Johnny G to match the flavour, and quality of the real deal. Classic toppings, including mustard, sauerkraut, and caramelised red onions, will be available, just like in New York, and there are vegan options too. My mouth’s watering just thinking about it.

What’s it for?

CommBank has worked with Hopper to provide customers access to Travel Booking. It intends to bring people closer to their favourite travel destinations. Travel Booking has access to thousands of flights and hotels worldwide. The CommBank app will also predict prices on flights and when the best deals will pop up to book your travel. For eligible CommBank Yello customers, you’ll get 10 per cent back on all flight and hotel bookings.

Plus, one lucky attendee over the weekend will win AUD$10k in Travel Booking travel credits*. That’s enough to book your next trip to the real Times Square using the new Travel Booking service via the CommBank app. How’d you like them (big) apples?

Mark your calendars and bring your best NYC accent ‘cos this is a one-time-only event.
