A new Persona game is coming, but it’s not what you think

A new Persona game is coming in 2023, Atlus announced in a press release as part of the Persona 25th anniversary celebration but it’s not Persona 6. The new project isn’t even a video game. Atlus is partnering with card game maker Pandasaurus to create a Persona 5 Royal card game, which the publishers plan to release on Oct. 21, 2023.

Emerson Matsuuchi will design the game. Matsuuchi is known for his work on Foundations of Rome, a deep tabletop city builder game, and Century, a range of role-playing games following the exploits of explorers and merchants around the world.

Atlus described the game as a cooperative strategy game, a half-step between a series spinoff and a reimagining, in other words. While the series’ signature time management and complex battle system seem like a perfect fit for the kind of games Matsuuchi creates, Atlus provided no further information about what players can expect. The Persona 5 card game also has no fixed name yet, though Atlus teased more information will follow in the coming months.

“As diehard fans of Persona 5 Royal – [we] cannot wait to bring the Palaces, Velvet Room and world of Persona 5 Royal onto tabletops everywhere,” a spokesperson from Pandasaurus said in the press release.

Meanwhile, Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5 will launch on non-PlayStation consoles and PC in the coming months, following Persona 4 Arena Ultimax‘s re-release on all platforms.
