A new indoor market is coming to the Roath area of Cardiff aiming to help new and upcoming independent businesses to establish themselves. The market is a collaboration between The Glory Stores, Wales's first LGBTQ+ provisions and dining room, and The Elephant's Ear, an independent plant shop.
The Glorious Elephant market will be held monthly, on a weekend, with the first market taking place on Saturday, April, 2. The market will be held in The Glory Stores which can be found at 1 Upper Kincraig St, Cardiff CF24 3HA.
The Glory Stores and The Elephant's Ear are setting up this market to help support other independent businesses in Cardiff have a starting point and place to build their reputation. Each trader will be fully vetted to ensure they hold the highest and up-to-date food hygiene certificates and their approach to sustainability and waste is at its lowest.

Vendors confirmed for the opening market are Mooke, an organic natural skincare, soy wax candles, and organic soap business; Demon Dog Designs, an eco-friendly dog product business; Squared Designs a vintage jewellery and cutlery business and The Gin Tin Bar, a mobile gin bar. Other vendors are due to be confirmed closer to the opening date.
Shaun Houcke, Founder and Managing Director of Glory Stores explained why it was important to be helping independent businesses, particularly after the pandemic. He said: "As former market traders ourselves, we know how important markets can be to kick start your business, build a client base and gain respect from the consumer. That is why we have launched The Glorious Elephant. Each month we will be looking for up and coming vendors to trial their project with our trusted customer base. This is a real opportunity for new brands to establish themselves especially after the pandemic."
At every market the traders will be very different from each other ensuring that none of the stalls are selling similar items or products. This is to help the businesses which will be at the market attract customers without competition from other businesses.
