A modern classic: Tighes Hill renovation listed with auction guide of $1.6 million

A renovated house in Tighes Hill that was once - according to the owners - "the worst house on the best street" is set for auction on November 12.

15 Hewison Street, Tighes Hill.

The house, listed with Tammy Hawkins at McGrath Estate Agents, has a guide of $1.6 million.

The owners purchased 15 Hewison Street six years ago and undertook extensive renovations to create a spacious family home that embraced the best of its original features and paired it with a contemporary modern extension at the rear of the property.

"It was originally the street that we really liked, being wide and tree-lined, and then I fell in love with the house even though it was definitely the worst house on the best street," the owners said

"The design inspiration was to keep the federation feel at the front of the house and make the extension very modern at the back of the house.

"We also chose the contrasting exterior colours to reflect this as well."

The house features four bedrooms (including the master with ensuite and walk-in robe), three bathrooms, a stylish kitchen with a butler's pantry, and open-plan living areas that flow out to the outdoor entertaining area.

The rear extension features vaulted ceilings and natural light with the addition of large windows to maximise the northern aspect and cross breezes.

"We worked closely with Matt Hull from Design Pad to create the seamless flow from old to new," they said.

"We also wanted to capture the winter sun to warm the house and block the summer sun as well, creating passive cooling from under the home by creating a Venturi effect with the louvered windows."

Other features include a home office, air conditioning, ceiling fans, a wood fireplace, a pull-down attic storage and a large level backyard with a storage shed.

The house is open for inspection on Saturday at 1pm.
