Oof. This one really hurt for Michigan in the Wolverines’ College Football Semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl.
Le’s break it down: With Michigan down 14-3 in the second quarter, J.J. McCarthy hit Roman Wilson for a 50-yard pass that appeared to be a touchdown as the receiver hit the ground. But replay showed that Wilson’s backside and/or knee hit before he got into the end zone. And college rules mean that he’s down.
Instead of a touchdown, Michigan was at TCU’s 1-yard line … and Kalel Mullings fumbled on the very next play to turn the ball over.
Not great. But a lot of fans thought it should have been a touchdown:
Hmmm!
The question is: Did he have possession when he was down? Or after he was across the goal line? We here at FTW have been arguing about this for 10 minutes:
Should this have been ruled a touchdown?? pic.twitter.com/K3zIX1qv62

Michigan got robbed. That was a touchdown. Not even close. Total embarrassment by officials. Wow. Pathetic.

I really thought that should have been a touchdown. What a questionable replay.

The FBI needs to investigate that overturn, how the hell was that not a touchdown

The point of review is fixing egregious errors. This should have been a touchdown. https://t.co/La6lUZmh4a

That was the worst review in history – that was a touchdown pass to Roman Wilson
Either way – this Michigan team has been a disaster inside the 5 yard line. WTF

If that ain’t a touchdown then I don’t know.
