A Major Change Is Coming to Your Favorite Chinese Takeout Spot

Some have predicted that the rise of AI will affect the fortunes of us all -- and now they can say they were technically correct.

When you visit a Chinese restaurant, the fortunes in your cookie are typically so predictable that many have adopted the practice of adding "in bed" to the to spice them up.

Now, an unusual media platform called OpenFortune that has a major hand is getting those messages into fortune cookies at restaurants all over America has announced it will create them in a new and unusual way: using ChatGPT's text generator.

On the back of OpenFortune fortunes, customers can now find an advertisement with a code for more information. The company has worked with major marketers from Disney to Coca-Cola and more.

"The most common feedback we receive from consumers is that they want to see new, refreshed, unique fortunes," said Matt Williams, CEO of OpenFortune, in a statement. "By harnessing the power of AI, we are revolutionizing, yet maintaining, the traditional fortune cookie experience for consumers, while providing our advertising partners with seemingly endless creative capabilities."

According to the press release, ChatGPT "produces never-before-written and more appealing fortunes, at an exponentially faster rate. This ensures that people are less likely to receive the same message as their dining companion and creates a more personalized fortune cookie experience."

Some of the fortunes ChatGPT has in store for customers include, "A harmonious melody will soon drift into your world, guiding you to dance with destiny," and "Seek harmony within yourself, and the world around you will follow suit."
