A-listers who have read CBeebies bedtime stories as Harry Styles becomes latest star

It's been revealed that singing superstar Harry Styles will be the latest celebrity to partake in reading a children's book on CBeebies bedtime stories.

The former One Direction heartthrob, 28, will be settling down to read Jess Hitchman's In Every House, On Every Street, which is illustrated by Lili la Baleine.

It's said the story has been a depicted as a "heart-warming celebration of homes and the different families that live in them." The singer and actor, who performed at Coachella last month, will open the reading by saying: "Tonight's bedtime story is about a house full of love and laughter."

The chart-topping singer will follow in the footsteps of several celebrities who have taken to the chair to help send little ones off to sleep with a comforting children's tale. But, who has already featured in the segment?

Here's a run down of some of the most notable famous faces to have featured in the show.

Orlando Bloom

Orlando Bloom once drove fans wild when he sat down to recite a story. It all forms part of a segment on CBeebies that sees famous faces read pre-school children a story before they go to bed on a Friday evening.

When Bloom made his appearance the actor, 41, was casually sitting on an armchair while his legs were slightly parted. As well as this a puppy was lying across his lap.

Tom Hardy

Nothing gets a mother's pulse racing like Tom Hardy, so you can imagine what is was like when he took part in the show. It was said he "caused ovaries to explode" when he featured in a Mother's Day special back in 2017.

Tom has actually thrilled viewers on the show more than once, as he also paid homage to his late dog Woody. The star once recited Fleabag, by Helen Stephens, to honour National Dog Day.

It's a moving story that tells of the friendship between a young boy and a scruffy dog who longs for a home. The little boy is also desperate for a pet dog.

Following desperate longing, the pair eventually cross paths where they encounter a lot of adventure and chaos before Fleabag finally finds his forever home.

Sir Elton John

Singer Elton John has also featured having read the story of The Dog Detectives: Lost In London. The hit singer read children the story about The Dog Detectives who are travelling through London on their bikes when they are called to help solve a new case.

The Duchess of Cambridge

Kate Middleton has also featured on the show, and she opted for modern classic, The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark, by Jill Tomlinson. At the time she described it as an “encouraging tale” that centres around the story of a baby barn owl named Plop who, with a little help in hand, manages to overcome his fear of the dark.

Regé-Jean Page

Did you burn for The Duke when series one of Bridgerton first hit our screens? If you did you probably already know that he swapped Bridgerton for Bedtime Stories a while back.

And who wouldn't want to see the Duke of Hastings indulge in a bit of literature? Actor, Regé-Jean Page, opted to read Rain Before Rainbows for a special Mother's Day treat back in 2021.

Dave Grohl

King of modern rock and roll, and Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl has also entertained the littles ones with a CBeebies Bedtime Story in the past. In true rock star style the reading was inspired by the lyrics of the world famous Beatles song, Octopus’s Garden.

The tale was written by Ringo Star, and the story follows five children as they embark on a magical journey through the Octopus's garden. In the book the cheeerful Octopus takes the kids on an underwater adventure full of wonder.

At the time, Dave said: "As a proud father of three, I’ve always enjoyed reading stories to my children. It was a pleasure to read these stories for CBeebies."

James McAvoy

Actor James McAvoy has also taken on the task. Back in 2015 he read No Matter What, and he opened the reading by saying "Are you all ready for bed? Have you brushed your teeth? Have you got your teddy with you?

Cuteness overload.

Ed Sheeran

Last year music megastar, Ed Sheeran, also took to the chair to tell a story about a boy who has a stutter, which is something he experienced as a child. He read a tale called I Talk Like a River by Jordan Scott and Sydney Smith.

In a nutshell the book tells a story about a boy whose father teaches him that words can flow like a river. At the time Ed said he was "delighted" to take part in the project, telling the BBC: "I hope the story helps inspire and support other children who stutter."

He said: "Growing up, I had a stutter like the boy in I Talk Like a River, so I'm delighted to be reading this story for CBeebies Bedtime Stories, especially as I'm a new dad myself."

Chris Evans

A little while back in 2017 Captain America or we we know him, actor Chris Evans, also appeared on our screens to read a heart-warming tale. He managed to take the young viewers (and their mums) off to dreamland by reciting Even Superheroes Have Bad Days by Shelley Becker.

Ryan Reynolds

In 2021 viewers also had another very special treat as Ryan Reynolds took on the role of storyteller. At the time he told the BBC he was trilled to join the much-loved programme, and he decided to read Maurice Sendak’s classic Where The Wild Things Are.

He told his young audience: “Well hello, I’m Ryan and I can’t be with you in the CBeebies House at the moment. But I really want to read you a Bedtime Story, so here I am all the way from the other side of the world in Canada.”

Ryan (via video call) told the story of Max, who dons a wolf suit, gets up to a bit of mischief before jetting off by boat to the place Where The Wild Things Are.

Closing the tale, he said: “Sometimes even the wildest creatures need to settle down with the people they love and get ready for sleep. Who knows what amazing adventures you’ll go on in your dreams tonight? Goodnight wild things, sleep tight.”
