A-level results: Best places to celebrate in London

A-level results represent freedom for students, with school ending conveniently just as they are hitting the legal drinking age.

And today is the day sixth-form students are finally receiving their hard-earned results.

Our live blog about the results day has noted that, while top grades seem to have dropped by 25 per cent compared to last year, the results are still better than before the pandemic.

Whether the results are what you hoped for or not, here are the best places in London to celebrate or commiserate the outcome in London.

Thousands will want to let loose after the stress of A-level results (PA)

When are the results released?

AS level, A-level, and T-level results day have been made public today (Thursday, August 17).

Where to party down (all events are on August 17)

Here are some top tips if you want to be free to do what you want to do, to have a good time, to have a party... etc.

Scala is hosting a neon UV rave with entry from 10 pm. The party will not end until 4 am, the organisers have said.

Lightbox, meanwhile, is hosting six rooms of music and a huge outdoor garden for the celebration. Tickets are from only £5.

Over in Soho, Zebrano is throwing a party “to let loose, rejoice, and revel in the triumph of your hard work” with music from a selection of DJs.

Then there is the Ministry of Soundwhich promises London’s biggest A-level results day rave. “We decided to throw the whole thing again... and this year it’s going to be even bigger,” organisers have said — with five rooms of music catering for 2,000 people.

If you want a calmer celebration

Of course, an all-night rave might not be your cup of tea and there are plenty of other A-level celebration options in London.

If you are wanting to dine out with family or friends, there are offers at chain restaurants such as Nandos, TGI Fridays, Frankie and Benny’s, and Chiquito.

At the cinema, there are new releases, with Strays and Blue Beetle, while Barbie, Oppenheimer, Gran Turismo, Meg 2, and Joy Ride are still out.

And if a walk is what you are after, there is set to be good weather — with sun and 22°C temperatures forecast for Thursday evening.
