A.J. Brown and Titans ‘in a good place’ with contract situation

One of the biggest stories of the Tennessee Titans’ offseason thus far has been the ongoing contract extension saga with wide receiver A.J. Brown, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2022.

Brown and the Titans have been working on an extension for awhile now, and while both sides haven’t come to an agreement just yet, it appears the outlook remains positive for something to get done.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, people he has spoken to make it seem like Brown isn’t going anywhere, and he notes that Brown has “been in touch with coaches, and everyone is in a good place.”

Samuel is the only big-name receiver who seems like a threat to be dealt. I’m getting strong indications Seattle is not dealing DK Metcalf. The Seahawks know he has generational ability that would be hard to give away. A.J. Brown is in a similar spot with Tennessee. After talking with people there, the feeling is very much that Brown will be with the Titans long term. He has been in touch with coaches, and everyone is in a good place.

The 2019 second-round pick recently decided to sit out the voluntary portion of the team’s offseason program as he waits for a new contract. We also got some insight into how much the Titans are offering per year ($20 million).

There has been some speculation that the Titans might trade Brown if a deal can’t be reached this year, but general manager Jon Robinson and head coach Mike Vrabel have both said multiple times they have no intention of dealing their star wide receiver.

Tennessee still has time to get something done, as Brown won’t hit the free-agent market until 2023. However, it would be in the Titans’ best interest to get something done sooner rather than later in order to keep harmony with one of their best players.
