We’ve got absolute ACC chaos kicking off college football’s Week 5 and Saturday’s slate hasn’t even begun yet.
A controversial ending down in Miami saw the undefeated No. 7 Hurricanes (5-0) escape an upset against Virginia Tech (2-3) after a Hail Mary touchdown was reversed on the final play of the game.
It was a bizarre scene on the field as both the Hokies and Hurricanes players celebrated a win in the immediate aftermath of the play. Virginia Tech players believed the ball was caught. Miami thought the catch wasn’t completed.
After the Canes’ victory light show was abruptly turned off, the refs announced the call on the field was, in fact, a Virginia Tech touchdown and a stunning 40-38 Hokies upset.
But it was clear this was headed for a review.

After lengthy review, refs reversed the call and declared Miami the winner, 38-34.
Considering the call on the field was a good touchdown, you’d expect there to be clear and convincing evidence the catch was not completed. Virginia Tech fans have a rather compelling argument that wasn’t the case here.
We can only wonder what Saturday has in store after the scenes in South Beach.
