'A good idea' as Nottingham tram users welcome stricter parking signs at park and ride

Nottingham drivers have been reminded that leaving their vehicles at NET Tram park and ride sites and not using the tram service could see their car clamped or towed.

Residents noticed signs at park and rides, including near the Wilkinson Street stop in Basford. According to NET's website, parking enforcement has been in place at park and rides since October 2022.

NET said park and ride sites are for "the sole use of tram ticket holders" and that those parking in the sites must have a valid tram ticket or a travel card which has been scanned for the journey from the point of parking.

Leaving a vehicle without using the NET system may result in it being clamped. Now those living close to the Toton Lane park and ride have shared their views on the increased signage and enforcement.

Terry Potter, a 59-year-old retiree said: "I agree with it, I think it's for the purpose of the tram, if not then you can get all sorts of abuse of the car park. There have been travellers in the past and car cruises.

"If NET have no control over the car park then people will abuse the system, so I think it's a good idea." Another local tram user echoed this and welcomed parking restrictions on the site.

Lorraine Harrison, a 45-year-old accounts manager, said: "There's nothing around here to give anyone a reason to park there unless they're using the tram. It's not like it's a car park in the city centre, it's a hard one.

"If lots of people are using it for something it's not for then I say fair play, stop them. But it's also a massive car park that's not always that busy."
